Substance Misuse & Accommodation
Purpose
GoodBot recognizes that substance use and misuse can have a serious, adverse effect on the health, safety, and productivity of GoodBot members, workplace, and the public.
GoodBot and those who perform services on its behalf, have a shared responsibility to maintain a safe and healthy work environment, to minimize the workplace risks associated with alcohol and drugs and to ensure that all members are fit for duty.
Scope
This Policy applies to all members of GoodBot, which includes, but is not limited to employees and volunteers.
Policy
Members are expected to report to perform their assigned duties safely and acceptably without any limitations due to the misuse or after-effects of use of alcohol, cannabis, illegal drugs, medications, or any other mood altering substances that may endanger their health and safety or that of any other person
GoodBot does not tolerate the use of alcohol, cannabis, illegal drugs and other mood altering substances or the misuse of medications in the course of working /volunteering (including any breaks) or at the workplace.
Members must not possess, distribute, manufacture, offer or sell drugs or drug paraphernalia at the work site or in the course of working/ volunteering. For the purposes of this Policy, drugs mean any substance, including illegal drugs and medications to which a member does not have a valid prescription.
Members who require the use of any prescription medication which may result in their not being fit for duty at the workplace must advise their manager before they work/volunteer.
Individuals who believe they have a developing alcohol and/ or drug problem are expected to assume responsibility and seek assistance from their personal physician(s) and or appropriate community resources before their job performance is affected or violations of this policy occur.
Members who are found to be using, possessing, distributing, manufacturing, offering, or selling drugs, drug paraphernalia, cannabis, or other mood altering substance that may endanger their health and safety or that of any other person at the workplace or in the course of working /volunteering, will be sent home immediately and provided a safe means home.
If there is evidence, such as irregular performance, behaviour, or alcohol on the member's breath, indicating that a member is not fit for duty, or may endanger their health and safety or that of any other person at the workplace, they will also be sent home immediately and provided a safe means home.
Members found to be in violation of this Policy may be subject to discipline up to and including immediate termination of employment/volunteer tenure, with just cause.
At GoodBot sponsored events, at the worksite or otherwise, where alcohol or other legal substances are permitted, members may safely consume alcohol or use legal substances when not on duty. You are strongly reminded that you are representing GoodBot and that your conduct must abide by our Code of Conduct, particularly the Off Duty Conduct Policy. It is your responsibility to ensure that at no time, due to the consumption of alcohol or use of legal substances, do you endanger your health and safety or that of any other persons. Members found in violation of any Code of Conduct or GoodBot’s Policy at a sponsored event, may be subject to discipline up to and including immediate termination of employment/ volunteer tenure, with just cause.
